Astute Mortgages began with a simple idea: mortgage advice should feel personal, clear, and supportive, not rushed, confusing, or corporate.

From the beginning, the goal was never to build a high-volume, impersonal brokerage. It was to create a service where people feel listened to, informed and genuinely looked after throughout one of the most important financial decisions they will make.

Over time, that approach has become the foundation of the business.

Much of our growth has come through referrals, recommendations, and long-term relationships with clients who value honest conversations, straightforward advice, and consistent support.

We understand that every mortgage case represents something meaningful. For one client, it might be the excitement of buying a first home. For another, it could be restructuring finances to create more stability. For a business owner or investor, it may be a step towards long-term growth.

Scott Skinner

Director & Mortgage Adviser

Scott is the founder of Astute Mortgages and has been helping clients with mortgages and protection for several years. He specialises in working with first-time buyers, home movers, remortgages and self-employed clients who often feel overlooked by high street lenders.

Scott believes in keeping advice straightforward, honest and personal, focusing on building long-term relationships rather than just completing transactions.

Outside of work, Scott is a keen supporter of Arsenal F.C. and enjoys the competitive atmosphere that football brings, especially managing his son’s football team and being involved in grassroots football.

Family is hugely important to him, and much of his spare time is spent with his loved ones, whether that’s going on long walks with the family and dog, socialising, or enjoying a good BBQ. Scott is also passionate about improving his golf game and enjoys the challenge and discipline that comes with learning the sport.



Angela (Angie) Skinner

Mortgage Adviser

Originally founding Astute Mortgages with Scott but deciding to concentrate on advising only now. Angie has many years of experience within the mortgage and protection industry and is known for her friendly and supportive approach with clients. She works closely with customers throughout the mortgage journey, helping make what can sometimes feel like a stressful process much easier to understand.

Angie is passionate about providing clear guidance and treating every client as an individual, not just another case number. Angie is incredibly family-oriented and loves making sure everyone around her is looked after and supported.

She enjoys spending quality time with family, travelling with her husband and visiting new places together. Angie also has a creative side and enjoys taking on DIY projects around the home and learning new skills along the way. She’s known for bringing energy and fun wherever she goes, especially when there’s karaoke involved.



Billy Clay

Operations & Compliance Manager

Billy plays a key role behind the scenes at Astute Mortgages, helping keep the business running smoothly day-to-day. From client support and administration to compliance oversight and systems management, Billy helps ensure every case progresses efficiently and clients stay updated throughout the process.

His organised approach and attention to detail help create a smoother experience for both clients and advisers.

Billy enjoys spending time with his wife, who he has been with for over nine years, and together they love travelling, exploring new places, and creating new memories. He’s a big foodie and enjoys trying different foods and restaurants whenever possible.

In his spare time, Billy enjoys gaming, going to the gym, playing golf, and spending time with his cats. He’s also a fan of strategy and fantasy games, including regular Dungeons & Dragons sessions with friends.
